A few of my friends suggested Killerguides.com to me and so I thought that I might as well check it out. And was I satisfied? It was the best solution out there that there is for me! Killerguide’s Star Trek Federation guide has all the details you need to know when playing the on the Federation side, and it has helped me progress through the game much quicker. Hours spent on one mission turned into half an hour, and weeks stuck in one rank turned into a day.

The guide has all the useful tips that are needed to get to Admiral rank as quickly as possible. The right missions for the right rank and details of where to go to find those missions were found in the guide, which was really helpful otherwise other people like me would be wondering around not knowing where the missions are, and if I happen to find one, they would be impossible to complete.

From now on, whenever I run into a problem during the Star Trek Online game, I wouldn’t hesitate to get one of these game walkthroughs. Only had I known that there was Killerguides, I would have been Admiral by the first week that I’d played Star Trek Online.

Therefore, definitely RECOMMENDED!

One of the best parts of an MMORG is creating a digital avatar to play, and with the expansive Star Trek Universe there are a lot of races to choose from. Thankfully, Cryptic has really done well with this, allowing a huge range of custom options, not only for single character creation but for races over-all.

As of currently released information, there are two playable factions in Star Trek Online. They are the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Which faction you choose does seem to alter the races available to you, but just how much this changes a player’s options isn’t clear because of the way character creation works in Star Trek Online. All the typical races are available for play – Vulcan, Trill, Human, Bajoran, etc. If a player chooses to play as the Klingon Empire the Orion, the Gorn, and the Nausicans are available for play. Players can also create their own alien race to play, or use a race that they have discovered in game in a first contact encounter. There are also at least two other non-playable factions rumored to be a part of the game as well, and they are species 8472, various factions of the Romulan Empire, and the Borg. The Hur’q or Iconian civilizations might also make an appearance.

Officers are also allowed to choose the races of their “pet” crew members. They can be made out of any standard race (Bajoran, Vulcan, etc.), custom player created races, or first contact races that have been encountered in game. This lets players build whatever kind of bridge crew they’re interested in, for either aesthetic or role-playing reasons.

Fleets are Star Trek Online’s version of guilds. Fleets have the ability to construct in-game facilities such as space stations, shipyards, and mining areas. There will also be fleet specific ships that can only be built by multiple players. Task forces can be formed within the Fleet to complete certain missions.

In short, players can choose from an endless variety of races to make their characters and their ship crew, interact with a number of different factions, and join a Fleet to further their own ships and crews while getting to spend time with other players in game.

Star Trek Online will be centered around the Federation faction, which is somewhat unfortunate for fans of the Klingons who have their hands tied to PvP career advancement, while the Federation have both PvP and PvE to choose from for ranking solutions. The Federation faction is indeed well-rounded and has advantage over the Klingon regarding the more player vs. environment content available. But ultimately, both factions will have the same number of skills and the same professions.

The differences in the two factions lies in the alignment of the weaponry of the ships. The Federation ships are well-rounded with beams equip-able in the front and sides, unlike the Klingon that are more oriented to weapons placed in the front of the starship. So you will know exactly what to do when encountering a Klingon ship. Just focus and shoot the side of the ships! However, beware because these Klingon come equip with more bridge officers that Federation could ever think of. Players could be sure they got some boosted attributed hidden under their sleeves, but again it depends on the players and how much of an advantage they can allocate bridge officers to give them that edge in battle.

I am coordinating with some fellow writers to get quality Star Trek Online Federation Guides out in time of the game’s launch, as well as many more comprehensive Star Trek Online Guides.
